During the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters, Penn State York will be offering two 1-credit graduate level courses. The courses are designed to provide participants with the most recent information on research and best practices in current topics of education.
EDUC 497 - Increasing Student Inquiry Using Project-Based Learning (1 credit)
Educators will gain foundational skills in project-based learning by creating a unit of study. The class will model the project-based approach to teaching. Educators will have the opportunity to work with the instructor, guest speakers, and colleagues to explore and practice project-based teaching practices. Educators will explore and evaluate curriculum and instruction for the 21st century learner. Essential Questions: What is the difference between project-based learning and doing projects? How can we as educators effectively facilitate projects with our students? How does research and literature support a transdisciplinary approach? How do we align standards with project-based learning?

EDUC 497 - Developing Leadership within the Classroom for Career Success (1 credit)
Educators will gain foundational skills in developing leaders within their classroom by engaging in hands-on leadership activities. The class will model the leadership approach to teaching and connect it to career readiness and success for students. Educators will have the opportunity to work with the instructor, guest speakers, and colleagues to explore and practice the leadership approach. Essential Questions: How does classroom leadership prepare students for career success? What leadership competencies are essential for career success, and how can they be cultivated in the classroom? How can classroom leadership experiences enhance career readiness and networking opportunities?
