Language Camps Set for August at Penn State York

Penn State York continues to offer summer campus for youth with Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and sign language camps getting underway Aug. 14.   These half-day camps are designed for students in fifth grade and older.      
Mandarin Chinese is offered from 9 a.m. – noon, Aug. 14 – 18.   The focus of the camp is on speaking as well as reading and writing Mandarin Chinese.  In addition to beginning to learn the language, participants will gain knowledge about appropriate behavior in Chinese-speaking society.
Japanese is offered from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Aug. 14 – 18.  This camp will allow students to become familiar with Japanese pronunciation and phrasing.  Students will also gain a better appreciation and understanding of the Japanese culture and people.
Sign language campus will introduce students to American Sign Language (ASL) vocabulary.  Campers will learn signs and grammatical; structures useful in everyday language.
