Dear New International Students,
I’m sending you a warm welcome from The Pennsylvania State University! It sure is cold here this winter, but we will start to see the temperatures rise in the coming weeks.
There are many details that need to be coordinated over the next few months as you prepare to begin your studies with us here at Penn State York. I want you to know that there are many wonderful people here who can assist you, and I want to offer my services as well. I’ll be serving as the main point of contact for all international students who will be arriving in August of 2013 for the fall 2013 semester.
Please know that we are still coordinating new student orientation, housing, and a number of other details as well. Please don’t make any arrangements regarding those issues before hearing back from me or seeing an update on this site. We are designing a plan with you in mind - to make sure that you have a smooth transition to the city of York, Pennsylvania, and to Penn State as well.
One note for you - as you search for your flight, please know that we prefer that you fly into Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). We will provide shuttle service from BWI to York, Pennsylvania, on the evenings of August 18 and 19, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. If you fly into any other airport or into BWI on any other date, you’ll need to arrange for your own transportation to campus. The days following your arrival will be full of activities to help you learn about the local area and Penn State as well.
We do not provide on-campus housing at Penn State in York, but we are currently crafting a plan so that you will have the option to stay somewhere at a reduced rate for a few days when you first arrive. Please don’t make plans on your own for this temporary housing. I will be in touch with details about the options we are arranging in the near future.
All international students must have health insurance as well. Penn State offers our own health insurance plan. If you are interested in using a different plan, please consult the Penn State Student Affairs University Health Services website . You will not be allowed to graduate without having insurance.
Please feel free to respond to me with any questions that you have about arriving or learning at Penn State. If I don’t know the answer, I will find it for you or direct you to someone who can assist you.
Again, welcome to Penn State! We are so pleased that you will be joining us in August.
